Approval of Rosters, teams.
• General
discussion about the difficulty in creating a balance to allow
as many children to participate in competitive travel soccer
and the issues of fielding an adequately rostered team. A question
was raised re the process for determining number of teams and rosters.
This was clarified, as there has been a process in place for the
past few years that has been consistently applied at the Jan or Feb
board meeting to set the number of teams by age and gender bracket.
The issue that comes up annually after tryouts and registration is
the lack of, or excess number of players within a given bracket,
than allowed based on the previously approved roster and team limits.
Coaching Committee.
• General agreement that George Bloom has been doing a terrific
job with referee assignments. Looking for feedback on how it is going
with the referee’s and their general performance. Generally
it appeared to be working well with one suggestion - to mix up the
referees assigned by team by week. Bob Keach also invited any new
referee to attend a practice to call a game scrimmage for practice.
Local referees who have attended the certification course will have
preference in fall classic referee assignments.
Falmouth
Fall Classic – Update.
• Ken
Alvarez- 142 teams registered, 47 u10, 15 u 11, (44%) rest are
u 12 +. Will
be able to use most of the high school / middle
school complex, including some use of stadium field. Will agree to
pay for some field repair based on fall classic results and appropriate
remediation, such as resoding the goalmouths. The field is in very
poor shape so any investment may need to be made in the spring. We
will use 111 fields at the high school and 5 at Community Park. No
program this year. Most of the information to be available via the
Falmouth Soccer web site. Major up date at the October board meeting.
Next Meeting. October 5, 2003 at 7pm at Norway Savings Bank.
